Night Club News

Posted by borlova on July 28, 2007

I Have Noticed quite a few people searching about night clubs in Romania and especially Timisoara i saw there is a electro party somewhere near timisoara advertised with a line up including some UK DJ’s Seemed like a good crack unfortunatly left the info with some guests we had here so lost the dates but it is up and coming. If any one is searching for info or help on this front then me and Kev can probably help with sorting out some deals and Guides which will help no end if it is your first trip here. we had a promotion in mind and we are still working on it. but other things have side tracked the progress.

without a doubt romania has some unusual nightlife and style of partying…some of it very erotic…The Clubs in timisoara are mainly smaller than some big UK clubs But an outside Gig will get packed out this time of year.

Well cutting this short if you need help or information just post a reply

Night Clubs in Timisoara

Posted by borlova on June 29, 2007

If you are looking for a clubbing or night life experience in Romania then Timisoara is a good place to go it has vibrant night life as most of the town is occupied by students and Italian business men. the club scene is mainly house uk influenced and euro house techno and electro beats. djs are pretty good and clubs very cheap to get in and drinks are cheap to due to a high volume of students. the students come from all over romania so its a bit like a university town in the uk. cafe bars discos fast food all you would expect. romanians do tend to dress smart casual to go clubbing or even just to a bar..dress sense is very Italian Mediterranean influenced and dead smart the girls all wear just as classy clothes but some of them wear nothing much with the same amount of style

if any ones interested in a nightclub experience holiday here more than pleased to help..seeing as both the brits in the village here were pro djs in the uk we think we know a good night out..check our web site for phone numbers and e mails.

any one gong to sibiu feel free to drop us a message

blow n darn it may have to pop back to my home town in the uk just spotted this it looks like the place to be in september

Well Top Scoop story news worthy of head lines in Romania and Moldavia or Moldova…Zdop si Zdub have just finished a concert on the top of Muntele Mic The roving reporters assistant Kev is currently back stage with the band and will be reporting back in the morning….Who the hell is Zdop Si Zdub…apparently came 6th in the eurovison in let me get this right 2005 or was it 2004?? any way here is the official web site for the band…

Zdop si Zdub

i think one of their songs translates to grandma beats the drums…

normally she’s rinsing her false teeth in the sink or farting and blaming the dog…or doing some menial task like peeling spuds in the kitchen or stirring gallons of mamaliga…

Still i will wait the return of kev our man behind the scenes to give a review of tonights gig on the mountian of muntele mic

other news headlines

Kev Breaks Down in Yellow Lada

Yes i am pleased to report that Kev from Retford actually managed to breakdown in a bright yellow Lada whilst on his way to pick up his pose mobile customised  Peugeot 205 with massive sound system and under body blue lights..which he continued in up to the mountain…we will see if the low profile tyres and lowered suspension survive the journey.

Peckham springs in full flow

the spring on kevs land is still providing water  so it seems it is a working spring…the water and electric have been taken from the road now so now alls left is build the house….first parts of construction will start after the party…on the mountain..well on Monday probably depends on hangovers…

the spring has attracted a lot of local interest and the whole village now knows its there …i see a business opportunity arising.

Traffic Report: traffic heavy as nearly 2000 people attend the open air concert on top of the mountain traffic constant all day and now all is quiet no incidents to report all traffic moved freely…one breakdown kev in a yellow Lada ran out of petrol just a mile from Borlova and was towed home courtesy of me…just popped this in in case any of kevs mates from the uk in Retford get to see this (snigger) he was overtaking a flock of sheep at the time a bit embarrassing to say the least…time for that to be used at a later date

traffic coming down from the mountains tonight is getting on my chimes i cant sleep…

Weather Report last night heavy thunder today hot and humid tomnight humid tempratures low 26c  high 32 c

83% humidity the next few days are forcast to hit above 32 c so outlook hot and sticky………

the stickiest situation since Sticky the Stick insect got caught on a sticky bun. more news and reports on the concert later

Bar- B – Q Blitz

Posted by borlova on May 8, 2007

well Blitzed is more the word, sunday the flower festival was terminated by a barb q here at borlova news headquarters..kev the new english resident was invited with family and we got blitzed in true uk style pint glasses ahoy…followed by lots of meaningful discussions abuot diddly jack….so after 20 quids worth of meat and 20 ltrs of beer all had a good time except the ladies who spent most of the time gossiping and clearing up.after the mess created by the men.. at least bar b ques are internationaly the same? i still havnt worked out what the flower festval was about but who cares i must be getting romainian more by the minuite its a great excuse to have another party anyway.

i am looking forward to a summer of this as we have lots of tourists booked in for the summer but i fear i may get sick of bar b q meat, not the beer obviously…..so cheap and so tasty and so refreshing after a hard days slog chilling out, today we played golf on the grass and put up a tent and then went fishing…lifes hard but somones got to do it…

party in romania the day after

Posted by borlova on April 9, 2007

Party aftermath

Just recovering from last night in the local bar and “disco” if you can call it that, a small room with a table and a computer some speakers and not much else apart from the few lights I agreed to loan them for the Easter bash, in return for some free beers, big mistake on my part was to consume the free beers rapidly. Followed by drinking Dansk vodka with a French guy who was on holiday here with his Romanian wife, I don’t speak much French and strangely he didn’t speak any Romanian or English but the vodka seemed to be an international language, his wife on the other hand spoke very good English and Romanian and French. She’s a lawyer in France so she did translate for us a bit, a very odd combination the other guy with us was Romanian and he spoke some French and good English so in the end we proceeded to finish the bottle much to the delight of the bar owner as she had had this in stock for eons.

Drinking in romania some advice

Just a bit of info for uk residents visiting about drinking in Romania, larger as we know it is prevalent, Beck’s Stella, Heineken Tuborg to name just a few of the more common brands strengths of the lagers here is export 4.8% to 5.2% on average you don’t tend to find much bellow this level, mostly beer is sold by the bottle, draft exists but its more common in the summer to find draught or Bere la Halbe. In general the beer sizes are 50cl or 33cl the most common is 50cl only a whisper short of a UK pint.Romanian beers a very good quality there are many brands but a very popular one is Ursus it’s very good, the brands have regional following similar to the uk i.e. Yorkshire bitter, here we have Timisoareana it’s a larger and costs 2 lei (40p) a pint its 5% apparently first brewed here in 1718 I think they claim it was the first beer in romania debateable I suppose its true.Romanians tend to be responsible drinkers and don’t go around drinking all day, although that’s possible here 24hrs. They tend to drink socially any opportunity for a get together for a natter mainly over a coffee.Romanian ladies tend to have sweet palletes and drink among other things a lot of vermouths like cinzano or garrone the majority of ladies don’t drink much and they tend to stick to fruit juces or small bottles of coke or fanta etc, most romanian women are cheap to buy drinks for the small juices cost between 2 lei and 4 lei, they also love a good cappuccino with cream topping and can sit for hours with one drink. The larger towns are more like the uk in the clubs and bars but a word of warning the word “Night Club” here normally means a strip joint or pole dancing club, if that’s what you had in mind go in but if you were looking to boogie on down with more realistic beer prices then you need to locate a Discoteci not a nightclub, If you do venture into a night club beware like any city in the world these places are somewhat risky, you will be fleeced of as much cash as possible beware, try not to agree to by the nice lady a cocktail this will indicate you wish to be fleeced, this will happen quicker than you know, if you do get caught in this situation my advice would be to pay as you go never ever let them run you a tab. For advice cocktail for the girl prices vary a lot but don’t be surprised to pay £10 to £12 pounds a drink and boy they sup an orange juice quicker than you can locate your wallet. Also expect to pay double if not more for a beer in these places and avoid ordering spirits. I have found some places charging 4x the going rate for a 50cl beer and then only a 33cl bottle to boot. Still you out for a beer with the lads or some friends what could possibly go wrong? You’ve all had some times and experience in the UK, and not much freaks you out. Think you are in another country with different attitudes before getting blasted consider your safety, try to make sure you have your own security arrangements like a trustworthy Romanian companion who will look after you, or if you don’t have this keep a nominated person sober/ish if possible.Theirs some DJ festivals and concerts going on in Sibu this year as its European city of culture so possible some uk clubbers will come to check it out if this is you read this. And don’t think about any type of drug you will get slapped in jail without a doubt at the mere sniff of any thing like this, and if you are approached to buy any thing refuse chances are its fake and you are getting conned. I don’t condone the use of drugs I am merely stating some facts.Other things to be aware of at night the taxis charge on average double if you drunk you wont have a clue and you will get fleeced. Beware any one wishing to become your instant friend, normally this involves either them conning you out of cash or scamming you in someway, romanians are very nice people don’t get that wrong they are also party animals and like a good time, don’t let this worry you have a great time but always maintain a bit of discretion when chatting with people, eventually you will get the idea of the place,  The worst thing you could do here is going drinking alone at night I am sure you will wake up but regret it heavily the next day.In Summary Romania’s a great place for nightlife entertainment and partying its one of the safest places to go out unlike some of the uk club venues I have either worked in or been to, a Saturday night in the uk is getting slaughtered and fighting at kebab shops, or staggering home alone puking up, don’t think its like that here its most defiantly not. I have seen one serious fight in 18 months and that was in the day in private. If you steer clear of seedy looking places and go with the majority you will have a great time here. Avoid places with men wearing black-rimmed cowboy hats and places full of people with mainly darker coloured skins, especially if they are dripping in gold.Come to romania to have fun and enjoy the difference it’s a great place to party

The romanian easter party hath started

Posted by borlova on April 8, 2007

Party in romania

Easter is a big event in romania bigger than christmas in the uk, many people here in fact i would go so far to say
more than 99% are religious i know i said i dont want to discuss religion and i dont but i am just stating facts for information
to give an insight into the culture of romanian life.
from an outsider and non too religious persons veiw there are several observations i have made most of which i find peculiar
if not some comical.
the party has officially started today well it started for some last night and will continue on for the next 2 days.
one local guy here cosmin has been permanently ratted since then not sure he will survive the next 2 days he will probably die of alchol poisioning

there are a lot of traditions here one very common at any time is the drinking of local hooch there are many names for it
most common are Tuica and palinka or to be more descriptive fire water
plum brandy, almost neat alcohol well they say 60% i think nearer 80% depending on who makes it
nearly every house has its own stash, if you meet somone for the first time or go to a house it is without question you will be ordered to drink a shot or many more with your host
to not consume the entire glass is considered very bad as it is supposed to bring bad luck on the host and his house,
so drink it like a shot of tequila for 2 reasons one you wont prolong the agony of tasting it and second you will not look like a cissy and you will impress your host some.
beware you may wish to consume a vast amount of water after this so i suggest making sure you at least have a glass of coke or similar handy first.

only a few glasses of this stuff will knock out even the most hardend drinker trust me,after you have tried it its ok to refuse another.
it is also considered rude not to accept anything when visiting a house even a glass of water is ok but take somthing its more polite.
if visiting on an invitation if possible if you have the time bring a bottle of wine or somthing to drink like a few beers, also for the lady of the house if you are invited to eat there
a nice gesture is one or three flowers Always give an odd number of flowers.

back to the party mode
tradition in this village is when men get drunk at a bar or party they have the world wide affliction of wanting to eat late at night
whilst drunk, not having fast food establishments such as in the uk kebab houses and KFC and curry houses, the next best thing here is to find
somone in the group who has an available chicken to slaughter there and then, the said bird is unceromoniously killed and plucked de gutted and cooked rapidly
whilst more drinking is undertaken, with the speed of cooking not taking long the bird is consumed faster than it could have run,all that remains are head feet and feathers, and the odd bone.

so 12 hrs benders are not uncommon here, most romanians dont drink vast amounts of beer or alcohol in the main they are fairly small drinkers.

there are of course the complete drunks to be found everywhere, but the record here for drink driving is very good they just dont do it
they will lose the licence and be fined and be put in jail, so a word of warning if you drive here just dont take a drink the limit here is ZERO
its taken very seriously by the police, and any one caught gets there picture put up for all to see and an anouncement in the local paper too.
a car is a precious thing here as getting around is not so easy without one.
