A long way to Borlova from UK a long time no write

Posted by borlova on September 24, 2007

Borlova borlova borlova…what a village…things here have certainly hotted up
in the last month
i am sorry i have been out of writing mode but a lot has happened here in the last month and here goes the story…

Phils arrival
Phil from Cluj has landed in the sleepy village and has settled in the pension for a few weeks …he had a bad time in Cluj and now is getting settled
hot cross buns are super…and he is starting to mingle but i am nott sure how or when.marmalade famine problem solved phil made some thanks to phil paddington bear will survive

Phill had some problems with the morning traffic as i had, but a change of rooms sorted that out.
hes still not worked out life here and its a bit of a culture shock to most from the west..it takes a bit of getting used to.but with time i think he will work it out?..

Kevs progress…well what a time for kev we have had his mum and dad here and his brother and we had a bit of a ball but they had a good time i think.
a lot of booze and some sight seeing in all of Romania
as well as some chill out time too.
the house is slowly taking shape albeit with out a plan or master plan but well its Romania who needs a plan..

Apple theft
the buggers stole my apples 2000kgs says old woman from village.
.and true too last weeks have seen more than 8 large 40 tonne trucks leaving the village laden with apples..the gypsies are having a field day
police have been questioning everyone selling apples.to try to find the culprits fat chance though.

Swiss enduro guide breaks shoulder and local Enduro guide takes over..
alin has guided the tourists over the last few days as werner the swiss Enduro man has fell off his bike and broken
his shoulder.
Ritas having puppies
Rita the Rotweiler is having puppies…for sure i had witnessed the dirty deeds over breakfast for the last week.
Akyim goes to Greece to work. well he will and he will come back and make the swimming pool in the bar here later on good luck old bean

tuica production in the cazan is in full swing
and many get inebriated in the process..including me.interesting stuff though…
school starts again and the parents take pictures..school is on us again and the term started with a blow the local headmaster was replaced at the last second
with a new guy who is a idiot
changing the hours all the time.we never know when to be in school…cheers for that..
WINTER IS COMING
ooohhh i must get some wood in for the fires….not Romanian yet then the rest of them did this 2 months ago…now i see why…its getting chilly and we need some heat here now…

Traffic report
well not much to say other than
get the road works sorted…..in the next village
and stop the JCBS working in the morning when i drive to town…
Weather report
sunny hot cold and around 10 at night and up to 30 in the day but some days bloody cold
like 23 or less..
more Borlova news as it happens if i can convince another to keep it up??? i may go back to uk over the winter its getting too cold already..i must try to ski, i must try to ski, i must try to ski….too cold though.but i must learn to ski…

One extreme to the other

Posted by borlova on July 31, 2007

Well what a day its been lashing it down with rain and a bit chilly to boot..kevs house starts to take shape with the first corner of the building being erected in the rain by the 3 wise monkeys me kev and gita.

No real local gossip and no updates on the car crash as yet but i have been working out side on kevs construction project all afternoon and didnt get up til lunch time so missed out on some things but quiet in general as i did move about.

Weather report: Wet cold cloudy and raining as opposed to hot and very sunny the day before who know what tommorow will bring?

Traffic Report: no news is good news

Other observations of the day: kevs question as to whether eating parsley gives you the trotts amused me, i have never heard of this but put his predicament down to other causes or food, incidently i always carry a spare change of clothes and some bog roll in the car in case of emergencies..and i have needed too use them all on several occasions so for first time in romania anti Trotts tabs are a great idea.. i dont normally get problems as often as when i first came here it is getting better still that is enough of that…off on a few days hols to a place just outside Cluj and then on to my friends house in Zalau Hopefully few a few days. been there before and its a nice area the aupesini mountains.

Food and What to Eat in Romania For the First Time Tourist

Posted by borlova on July 2, 2007

This hugely depends on where you hail from, the advice here is aimed at british tourists visiting for the first time. Although some of it is general and handy for all tourists and business visitors alike.

What to expect to be on a menu….again this depends on the establishment. let me start by breaking it down a bit

Larger international hotel: mostly good food well prepared by top chefs

small independant hotels: depends but much the same mostly good but does depend on the hotel and location

fast food both international and romanian: international chains are much the same world wide just minor local adjustments.

Romanian fast food…a night mare of a word here can mean so many things from very good in fact fantastic to gut turningly awful..

international restaurants: pretty good i have only tried italian in timisoara and chinese but not bad

romanian restaurants: wide variations

small village bistros and restaurants and guest houses : can be out of this world or completely the opposite.

so thats the general situation now some more specifics.

chicken: soups, fried, roasted,grilled

beef

pork

pasta

rice

vegetables

i have just realised this subject is going to take me ages to write so i will come back with an edited update later on

basically nothing to fear the food here is great mostly organic, you can tell a good place by the style of chips they make,if they are frozen then its probably not one of the more natural places i would eat at.

and meals here are so cheap one night in a local bistro i a small town we ate 7 people for less than £10 including drinks only a snack mind like grilled pork n chips with salad any way back soon
